Once did a girl who gleamed like the moon Look out at the world and did sigh Dejected she cried surely there is nobody Who love me or finds any love in my night So great was her pain she rose in rebellion Against those who cared for her most She let the nightmare fall on those she loved And threatened to grip them in permanent cold Sleep well dear kin goodnight sister mine Rest now in moonlight's embrace May this lullaby reach into your dreams And ease your passage of days

Once did a girl who shone like the sun Look out at the world and sighed She smiled and said that surely there is nobody So lovely and so well beloved as I So great was her kindness And so brilliant her wonder That long was the shadow she cast Which fell dark upon the young sister she loved It grew only darker as days and nights passed Soon did that girl take notice those others Did not give her sister her due And neither had she loved as she deserved And she watched as her sister's unhappiness grew
